Summer Project

Been looking for some inspiration to try and ease me into my end of term/summer project about the seaside, which is ideal as I'm off to Cornwall over the summer. Got a couple of illustrators off my friend Jess who i've had a look at and am veryyyyy impressed! CACHETE JACK
YASMEEN ISMAIL
Another illustrator i came across a while ago, AMY ADELE, has some lovely nautical drawings which are worth a look!
After the last project, I am definitely going to try and keep experimenting with texture and different mediums and this was really how my work progressed last time!

Final Theatre

So after 9 weeks I have finally finished my project! Here are some pictures of the final sets in scene order. Really pleased with the final outcomes and I have printed another version which I have made into a hand stitched book as an example of how it would sell commercially.

Snippets

Bit of scenery from a couple of scenes! I'm in the process of making the flat pack into a book! It's time consuming and challenging from my usual business but I'm hoping I will get it done in time for my crit on friday when i can gain some feedback from all the work i have done in the past 9 weeks! As you can see in the second picture, I have been using my trademark colourful print quite regularly in my work and i have decided to use it as a background for my book to make it a bit prettier :) That is an example of how it will look in the book but i am yet to add instructions etc.

Life Drawing

Went to life drawing yesterday with the Nash but the model didn't turn up, so we ended up modelling for each (not naked obviously) and it turned out to be a really good session, as we normally draw characters and sketches in clothing so we found it a really useful experience.

Painted Head

I painted the plaster head i created the other day so Monty the fisherman has come to life. I put a PVA and water mix base on the plaster incase the paint didn't hold well and used acrylics.

Props

View props for one of my scenes in the flat pack. Also beginning to think about packaging and presentation for the final outcome. After a crit with my tutor I think i might try and make the flat pack into a book somehow, where the set can be cut out in order maybe? I need to explore this further but at least i have an idea at the moment of how to do this which is promising!

Plaster Character

In my thursday workshop, we were given a cup filled with dried plaster, which we then used a scalpel to carved away and create a character. The first picture shows my initial designs for my character. He is a fisherman called Monty.

When i have completed all of my sets I will borrow my housemates pro camera and take some professional style photos and post them! Best get back to it :)

Brigette. B

My brother (Mr. Clouston) found a really cool animator/illustrator Brigette. B, whose work I love.

She has done work on animations for companies such as Pixar and Cartoon Network but mainly works on children's book illustrations now. I checked out her blog today and saw some cut out flats, similar to the project i am currently doing, which i just have to share! Here is some of her work as well as skecthes. Check out her online portfolio here: http://brigetteb.com/

Wall

I did a little sketch real quick to put in one of my scenes as a photo on the wall. Though it took literally a couple of seconds to draw, I like how it looks and the speed that it took to create!

Second Attempt

Having looked at the film yesterday, i wanted to improve my houses. Here is my next attempt. Think I'm going to stick with it because I havent got enough time to obsess over one part of the project and I'm quite happy with this result.

Gnomeo & Juliet

I have been a bit stuck for ideas and not done much development this past week. I think this is probably because I was distracted by my birthday celebrations :) I had a fantastic few days and along with having a Mexican feast, coutersey of Thomasina Miers, received one of Oliver Jeffer's books as a present which was BRILL!

But it's time to get back to business. I remembered earlier about the film Gnomeo and Juliet, which i watched a while ago and thought it might be inspiring as it has a lot of imagery of gardens and quaint houses. I visited the films website to see if i could find any images and have come across some which has made me want to crack on with my project again!
